Pile of grass cuttings

I have 2 Hebs that i am to put on a newly fenced area, on one corner of the paddock is a pile of clippings that has been left to rot down.
Does any one see any problems having the sheep roam over the pile.

Are the clipping really rotting or still 'edible' cos with goats at least, theres a risk of choking with clipping, as they're all clumped together.
Also may get rats burrowing in the warm compost, but as long as you're vigilant I wouldnt have thought a little extrs methane gas and creepy-crawlies should harm your sheep!
