what america does today...............
I watched a program on drug laws and prisons yesterday. Here are a few more statistics that are frightening for a so called democracy.

America has BY FAR the toughest drug laws of any democracy in the world.

First time, non violent offenders carrying two ounce of a drug carries a mandatory sentence of 10-25 years.

The drug laws take the decisions from the judges by enforcing mandatory sentences.

13% of American drug USERS are black...yet 78% of prisoners for drug related offenses are black.

There are 8 times as many black prisoners than whites.

$100 million a week is spent on building new private prisons.

30% of new residents in upstate New York are prisoners.

Owners of private prisons have funded politicians to vote against bills that give more money to improve education on the theory that the worse the education, the more likely the citizens are to go to prison.

Groups have fought and lobbied politicians to repeal the oppressive drug laws and sentences. Prison owners provide money for politicians if they vote against this.
