« on: June 02, 2014, 07:10:31 pm »
Just bought myself 2 jersey bull calfs there castrated and dehorned about 10 months old about 275/300kg my plan was too keep them over the summer and then send them off in the autumn? Is this a good idea they are on good clean pasture and have a stable

We had 2 last year, we sent them off the first week in December at 13 and 14 months old. The meat is fantastic an there was more than enough to sell some and keep enough back to last us for the whole of this year.
We could have sold it 10 times over .
we have 4 this year that are Jersey x A. Angus and we will do the same again

Yes it is a good idea.
Grow them as big as possible while you have plenty of grass and get them slaughtered before you have to buy expensive feed in for winter.
Grass fed animals are supposed to produce better meat as well.

I bought the 2 for £125 a piece....there going onto grass with a few beef nuts till December my slaughter costs are £240 per beast. Grand total per animal I'm estimating about £450 all in what sort off price did you sell your beef for?
