2 Goats in need of a new home
« on: April 30, 2014, 01:45:27 pm »
Hi All
My next door neighbour keeps goats for their milk.
He is retired and is thinking that he should really reduce his goat numbers due to the workload.
As such he is looking to sell 2 goats. They are both girls around 2 years old. They are British Saanen (? sorry if not spelt correctly!). They are real sweeties and easily handled. We look after them from time to time and they come when called, walk on a collar and lead and love a fuss. He would like nice homes for them, but does not really know where to start with advertising them. Does anyone know a good place to advertise them (or indeed anyone who wants two goats!)?  :goat:
They are in North Yorkshire.
Thanks for your help.

I'd hope so. We like them but after looking after his milking goats for a few days it really put us off. It is hard work milking twice a day! And it seems a shame to have girl goats and not produce milk.

The best place to advertise (if you want to avoid preloved that is) would be www.ukgoats.co.uk.

If these girls are registered with the BGS, then of course through their monthly magazine.

Ahha! I'll try that for him. They are pure bred, but not registered.
Is Preloved not advisable?

Preloved is a bit of a sore subject, there are a few good advertisers on there (such as you would be if you chose it) but it does have a reputation for being a dumping ground and to be totally honest, many serious goat keepers avoid it now which is really sad for people who are selling lovely, healthy well rounded goats.
There is a FB group which is a sideshoot from 'goaty friends' its called  goats for sale uk  i think? or BGS if they are registered, best bet.

It's 'goats for sale and wanted'. Hope you find someone to have them. I'd be tempted but I think know my OH would leave home.  ;D
