« on: April 27, 2014, 06:46:15 pm »
Heard a lot of screeching today only to discover that one of my kune kunes had caught his teeth on the fence and has broken one of his tusks. He is not that keen to drink, but is eating ok!! Any advice anybody?

leave him, he will be fine. Just watch yourself because the remaining bit will be extra sharp.
Everyone makes mistakes as the Dalek said climbing off the dustbin.

He might not learn from it straight away  :innocent:
Our boar got stuck twice before he learned (and we had to cut the fence to free him)  ::)
So now we trim the tusks quite regularly
There are youtube videos on tusk trimming (look for one from Sam Jones / Chris Impey / Rushburry pig - it's good) on how to trim without sedation. For Big Red, we knocked him out with a jab of stresnil to do the job - he's an awful big boy to try and hold  ;) 5 minutes with some de-horning wire and the job was done.
Hope that helps a bit? Poor lad  :-*
