How do you take a lambs temperature?
« on: April 03, 2014, 05:42:01 pm »

What’s the practical method, is the lamb stood up with you supporting it, tucked between your legs, two person job or can one manage it?  Got a lamb a bit off colour and it crossed my mind I would have no idea how to do it if required  :dunce:

Probably depends how big it is and if it's ill enough to need it's temp taken it's maybe not too wriggly.
I'd go for across my knee with it's head under my arm if it's a small one.
Don't have the option of a second pair of hands so just get on with it.

I usually hold them gently against the side of them pen with the side of my leg and then I have two hands free to insert the thermometer. There is sometimes a bit of a wriggle but I usually get there in the end.

Thanks for that, tried on my knee and managed but there seems to be a knack required in keeping a wriggling mass under control.  A touch of ‘scours’ that is now under control with ‘Bimastat’
