How's this for speed.
« on: March 14, 2014, 11:40:15 am »

Now that my new wool shed (palace) is approaching completion I realised I've completely forgotten how to weave.  I knew I'd forgotten how to warp up my 4shaft  Ashford table loom and Dryad floor loom, but I thought I would remember the weaving itself.  So I decided to get myself a little rigid heddle loom to practice on until the shed is ready.

I ordered a 16" Kromski Harp from Wingham yesterday afternoon and it arrived before 10 this morning, to Scotland.  The Parcel Force driver must have been fair flying along through the night

Now to put it together.  It seems to be very well made and finished, with fancy turned wood, ready varnished and a bit cheaper than the Ashford equivalent.  I'm happy and so's my husband who spent a merry half an hour deciphering the Polish Newspapers it came packed in  ::)

Does anyone have one for hints and tips?

Sorry I can't help as I am quite new to spinning myself but have fun when you eventually work it out  :spin:
(We don't have a weaving I on so had to make do with the spinning wheel)

Hello Bionic  You've been quite quiet recently. (Ah I've just read about your broadband problems on Greenerlife's thread.  Hope it gets sorted quickly)

Well, hubbie helped to put the loom together today.  I found a 'Kromski loom assembly' clip on Youtube which helped enormously.

I have also found an online Crafsty course on rigid heddle weaving which is on sale at the moment for £9.50 so I've signed up for that.  You don't have to do it at a set rate, but have forever access.  So far it seems very helpful.  I have books but seeing it done and being able to ask questions seems good.

The first project on the course is a 'stash buster' scarf - I have plenty of stash  ::)  Hubby has already asked for a cushion for his bony bum, which should be straightforward.

Already I have much more confidence and the weaving memory is coming back in leaps and bounds so I should be able to tackle the 4 shaft loom soon

Don't listen to the money men - they know the price of everything and the value of nothing

Live in a cohousing community with small farm for our own use.  Dairy cows (rearing their own calves for beef), pigs, sheep for meat and fleece, ducks and hens for eggs, veg and fruit growing

I found it all came back fairly quickly once I'd got started. Enjoy.  :D
