Hi
I know that once a pig has come onto the farm I cant take it off for is it 20 days. Is this the same for bringing pigs onto the farm. We are looking at getting two weaners from one farm and potentially two weaners from another farm, but they are approximately the same age and so will be ready to come to us at the same time. Is this acceptable pig movement?

Kind regards

Sophie

Yes, that's fine.

It just means you can't move anything off (unless to slaughter) in the standstill period after the last one has arrived.

Good luck, enjoy them  :)

Thought that was the case. Thanx for confirming it though.

If you're running them together and haven't mixed litters before you may find there's a bit of scrapping for a few days while they sort out the new pecking order.  If it gets too aggressive you could try spraying something like a citrus or pine spray over their back ends in a fine mist while they're eating, so they all smell the same. Tar spray does a good job on bitten tails.
