calling for help again.
Can you all please give me an idea of what you charge per kilo for butchered lamb.

I bought lamb recently, was the same as the pork I bought - £6 a kilo

we sell our heavyweight lambs for 4.40 per kilo (£2.20/lb) which generally works out at £100-120 per lamb

:)depends on if its rare breed or not around here rare breed is slightly more money i have just paid 2.50lb for rare breed, its lovely.
it also varies depending on where you come from.
(just need the rare breed beef and im set up for the winter.)

up here shetland lambs were being sold at about £25 say another £10 for slaughter so about £2.30 a kilo but then you need to do the butchering.

yeh!! this is a question i have being trying to work out....just phoned a butcher, to ask how much he charges for butchered lamb, and he is charging £6 per kilo for whole or half lamb fully butchered. He also said about £55 for a half lamb and £110 for a whole, but that the final price depends on how much the lamb weighs.

So, am I right.....Say a 42kg lamb will kill out dead weight at say 20kg, and when butchered that will be a final meat weight of about 14/15kg...does this sound a good prediction?

Somehow i need to give my friends an advanced pricing.
LOL..I dont think i will be making any money on the lambs at all (BTW profit isn't my main motive)

How do others work out their prices

sell it as half lambs. its quite easy to cut up. the price of £6 per kilo should include the lamb. don't pay that price way to dear.

we pay our butcher £20 per lamb and he will joint it in any way we ask. for a straight carcase unjointed we pay £13 then we charge £4.40 per kilo. If someone wanted the joints boned and rolled there would be an extra charge which we would pass on. If we also wanted the skins, it would add an extra £1 to the bill

We sell at £1.80lb approx £4.00 a kilo, half or whole lambs only, we get them killed and butchered and boxed for £10.00 per lamb, d/w ranges from 20/25 kilos.

so i have done it now

Five lambs to slaughter £13.50 each. dead weight was 30-37kilos
Butchering £10 each, at home by local butcher skilled contact
End product meat weight 16-20 kilos/lamb. Three lambs sold at £6/ kilo

Will have just covered my costs this year cos I bought equipment etc. But i am chuffed.
I have had compliments about the quality of the lambs all the way from the market, through the abattoir, and from the butcher....Well pleased.

oh yes....and they taste good too. I minced some of the scraps and made sausages as a wee bonus for my friends. Tasty tasty!!

Hi,

Locally (just north of Derby) I can buy a whole lamb butchered, bagged and labelled for £95 with a half lamb coming in at £50. The half that I bought 3 months ago (before my own were ready) weighed in at a shade over 9Kg (the only offal included was a kidney).

see if a local shepard could help you out. thats about 30 pounds more than we used to pay. even if you had a lamb baught and slaughted it should cost only £40-60 depending were you are an who you know. as they have to cut them to remove the spine your task of basic jointing is quite easy. and it will be more intresting.
