My drive has 2 gates, short double wood ones in front of the garage and a field gate I used to replace old wrought iron ones on the tarmac drive I used to bring my lorry through. This is the one the tractors use for delivery, but both are too narrow for lorries longer than my old Bedford TL horsebox which I think would have been under 20'.
As part of the wall between the two has started to crumble with the vibration of HGVs passing constantly, I am planning to change the layout to allow tractors to bring in trailers, the large hay lorry and possibly most important, the knackers lorry which is hard to deal with at the roadside given the nature of his pickup and the rush hour traffic that always seems to coincide with his occasional visits.
So, I am looking at the double farm gate size, with a ground pin to use them individually plus a hangover type closure for security if animals get loose. I'm sure there are several local merchants that could find and deliver one but I wondered if anyone had the price of them direct from the suppliers and who in Scotland you'd recommend?
Last farm gates and barriers I got from Hugh O'Neill in Ayrshire who used to deliver nationally - but I find his accent quite hard to catch as he's so soft spoken on the phone, so I wondered if I could get an idea of prices and suppliers before going through that conversational challenge!
I'm also needing strainers and square fence posts and might get a better deal for the lot if I save up in advance rather than buy in pieces, but the likes of Coventry only seem to do wooden gates and I would imagine metal will be more durable and not require painting on a regular basis - limited maintenance is a bonus feature for me!
