Lambing prep ... medicines
« on: January 29, 2014, 10:27:56 am »
Hi All

Mind now thinking towards impending lambing..

What is essential to have in the medicine cupboard ready for lambing?  (and do you have to get from a vet?)
Linda

Don't wrestle with pigs, they will love it and you will just get all muddy.

Let go of who you are and become who you are meant to be.

Bottle of calcium
Bottle of twin lamb drench
Bottle of anitbiotics
Bottle of pain killer

Anything else is a vet job I would think

Colostrum powder of course, wormer and flukicide for the ewe, if she has lice treatment for that (but you probably have got that anyway).

What painkiller would you keep in your medicine cupboard? I have AB's, but no painkillers. Not sure vet would hand them out other than single dose for individual cases.

  I only listed the meds.

I use metacam or more commonly known as magic metacam. I don't have my own bottle as 50ml costs around £50 but both me and my partner work on a dairy so it's stocked for the cows (sheep are on the same farm) and I borrow a jab and pay them for what I use. But yes the vet should give you a dose or two just in case, as they carry it with them. You only need 1ml
