@Alistair You have tattoos, but you don't like them?

I have them and luv them, I should have put a  :-J thingy at the end

To be honest the only issue I had was that my dragon was the first, and, in retrospect, isn't big enough especially as I have the half sleeve on the other arm, need to get more ink...

Tattoos don't age well, like the rest of our skin. I think if you are having a lot of your body covered with them when your young and impressionable you may not be so happy about them when you turn 40. We live in an age of instant gratification and its relatively easy to get them hard and expensive to remove them. I have looked after people who have had them removed at great cost to themselves emotionally and the NHS.
I think if you see the tattoo as apart of the tale of your life, like your children always with you that's fine, I don't like them because they are permanent, its not like dyeing your hair.

You could try Jagua temporary tattoos if you wanted to see how you felt about having a tat/wanted to experiment with styles and locations.

It's like henna, only black so more like a real tattoo look - but it's not 'black henna' which some people have a very severe reaction to.

I hope I didn't come over as judgemental. What other people do is up to them. I was just expressing my opinion of them which means I don't have anything else to say. I do think the zip idea is clever though. Pity it can't be  a real zip if it's a caesarean one, so that it's easier for the next baby.

Middle aged lady came onto our ward for an abdominal hysterectomy. Gynae Registrar comes to examine her pre-op to find pubes dyed green and just below where the incision would go a tattoo saying "Keep off of the grass" . fab!!  ;D

the older I get (am nearly 44) the less I care what others think of them lol. I'd like more but just can't afford it right now.

I have a couple - "tree of life" on one shoulder and a massive "green man" on the other (a christmas present to myself, which I am getting finished tomorrow and will have taken 4 hours in total).

Firstly - I don't find they hurt, so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

I am glad I waited until I was a bit older to have them because I knew my mind by the time I did and I chose things I liked, rather than just "looked cool". Tattooing has been part of our culture since the vikings and I imagine will continue to be so. I would, however shy away from having any where I can't cover them because, as you have seen on this thread - the judgemental bigotry tends to come from people who don't have tattoos, have no experience of them and like to make assumptions about people who have them. You tend not to find people who have tattoos judging people who don't have them, even if they regretted their choice.

So; as much as I find the anti-tattoo comments narrow-minded and somewhat offensive - I expected them because idiots like that are everywhere.

I like the idea of the green man, couldn't begin to imagine the cost though.

My tattooist charges £60/hour - so that gives you some idea. Its like any art, I guess - if you liked a picture you might pay that for it.

I might post up a pic when tomorrows session has healed up a bit.  :)

I've got a welsh dragon on my shoulder.  I'd wanted one for years but didn't actually have it until I was thirty. It did hurt a bit more than I thought but was bearable. I've told a few youngsters that every male baby born in Wales had them in the 60's to prove you were Welsh.

Hello to everyone! After about 2 months I finally got my tattoo (not a horse, but something similar, a bear  :tree:). I want to thank all of you, but also answer to some of you.

@honeyend I know tattoos don't age well and I was afraid of it. I got a small tattoo. For the moment my body is not covered in tattoos. I hope I won't get covered in tattoos, altough I like them a lot.

In the meantime, who got more tattoos? What type?

@SteveHants loved your story and tattoo ideas.
@philcaegrug cool tattoo idea. I am also interested in dragons, mostly Chinese.

Thanks everyone  :bunny:

I like them,  I like the abstract designs more than the I Love Mum type though. I wish they'd been more acceptable or I'd been braver when I was younger. My skin isn't up to it now and it's been stretched from me being overweight so long so I'm unlikely to get one now but if I did I'd get a bicep armlet in some sort of celtic knot design.
