I have a couple - "tree of life" on one shoulder and a massive "green man" on the other (a christmas present to myself, which I am getting finished tomorrow and will have taken 4 hours in total).
Firstly - I don't find they hurt, so I wouldn't worry too much about that.
I am glad I waited until I was a bit older to have them because I knew my mind by the time I did and I chose things I liked, rather than just "looked cool". Tattooing has been part of our culture since the vikings and I imagine will continue to be so. I would, however shy away from having any where I can't cover them because, as you have seen on this thread - the judgemental bigotry tends to come from people who don't have tattoos, have no experience of them and like to make assumptions about people who have them. You tend not to find people who have tattoos judging people who don't have them, even if they regretted their choice.
So; as much as I find the anti-tattoo comments narrow-minded and somewhat offensive - I expected them because idiots like that are everywhere.
