first time pig keeper- in need of help
« on: September 03, 2009, 05:18:55 pm »
Hi every one, hope all is well,

as i mentioned in my intro I'm trying to persuade my parents to let me get a couple of meat pigs,

i was wondering how much space is needed for 2/3, and feeds breeds and ages etc, all the usual questions, i can only do so much off the internet, first hands better,

also what are the legal implements, passports etc, butchering,

any help would be much appreciated  :pig:  :pig:   :D

Forums are a good place to get help, but get a book too, 'starting with pigs' by Andy Case is very good, and will point you in the right direction for many things :pig:

Thats fine for 2 pigs, especially if you rest it in between one lot going off and getting the new ones.  Even better if you can split it into two parts.

Cant help you with the legal stuff as dont live in UK.  However, I do know you will need a holding number and a herd number to buy your pigs.

Read back through all the pig posts on here.  Well worth it.
