why would the geese suddenly kill a chicken. they have been together for a year and have never got heavy with the chickens before. hope it stops or its goose for tea.

Could it have been ill? Did they get distressed by some event? Maybe a couple of hens fighting? I've noticed that in dogs - if one lot starts fighting the others seem to want to join in.

thats a thought. they have been stuck in the big field hope the ponies stay away.

Bet that's it. The ponies coming close will have angered them and they take it out on whatever comes near.

If I feed the ducks/hens bread and the geese come along they grab hold of the duck/hen and give them a nasty shaking, they are wee shites.

OK, you've both convinced me that my first experience of Sarah the Goose at Grantown on Spey when I was four was the correct one. I have no fear of any animal but Sarah's hissing apparently gave me nightmares for ages afterwards. All I was doing was saying 'hello nice ducky' and she went for me hissing like stink. My Granda had to rush out of the hotel where he was delivering ice cream and scoop me out of her reach! The hotel owner was most apologetic but she was a good customer so nothing more was said! But definitely no geese coming to Clacks!

this is getting daft now they are trying to beat up the shetland ponies and sheep. thou the gander did chicken out when one of my colts tried to kick him into next doors field. is death by pony an approved method of slaughter. they were really chilled out now they are grumpy bad tempered monsters. still there my little monsters and its hard to kill something that you rescued and raised.
