Does anyone on here use Parabens?
« on: December 17, 2013, 09:43:56 am »
I would like to try making some beeswax moisturiser but it needs Parabens. Even though most cosmetics use it there is some controversy over it so I would prefer to use something else if there is a reasonable alternative.

Any suggestions?

I don't use them. For a wax moisturiser I don't use a preservative at all, I just use them for emulsions which do go off. I guess it might depend on the recipe though?

I am using one called Optiphen which is supposedly okay, I don't know if they will change their minds on it though!

If you contact some of the larger cosmetic ingredient suppliers, they can advise you on alternative preservatives that are not as nasty as parabens.
A lot of my customers have told me that they search high and wide to avoid anything with parabens (or sls, or palm oil) which is how they end up with me so there is a quite clear no-no factor to using them.
when I made goats milk moisturiser I used a few different preservatives that were natural. for the life of me I can't remember names although I think one of them was E- something! sorry, no help am I!?

No it was that stuff they put in tooth paste , e- by gum !
Another one to watch out for is MI , methyliso - something or other .
It is in nivea and many other cosmetics , and is on the news right now . Being removed from products due to it causing  alergic reactions , 'being' removed ? , it should have an instant ban and recall .
Could it be that the corrupt cosmetic/pharma/food companies are at last being found out ?
Gm being slowly exposed for the deadly scam that it is , big pharma the same , and the food supply companies  being caught out , albeit very slowly .
Another new goodie from big pharma , gm antibios , they have been shown to destroy tendons .
Looking into this atm , but my mobile won't load most of the info !

Natural parabens are in blueberries , but it seems that the natural ones in fruit etc , don't have the same destructive properties as the synthetic type , sound familiar ?
