Reading that China has slaughtered 22.5% of the national dairy herd in recent months (2 million animals) made me dig a bit deeper. Seems it may be due to Foot & Mouth, in which case it's unlikely to be just cattle affected. Farmers have also been dumping thousands of dead pigs into the river near Shanghai, believed due to porcine circovirus - seems the Government there decided to reduce the amount of agricultural land without first reducing the livestock numbers, so everything's crammed into less space and that's having a surely predictable effect on the spread of disease. And you then have the particularly vicious strain of Porcine Epidemic Diarrhoea that's spread from China to the US ......
