I only have 4 Poll Dorset ewes and don't really want to buy a ram to cover them this season. I'm hoping to borrow a Poll Dorset ram but if that  is not possible then I know I can get a black welsh mountain on loan. Is it sensible to cross or am I being silly?

I don't know much about either breed, but if the lambs are for meat not for pedigree stock, I can't see the harm. In fact, you might beneft from hybrid vigour

Im bred pedigree polled dorsets for 5 years or more now and the best x i found was a texel or charrlois for a good meat carcass, black welsh mountain would be a bad idea, myself use a dorset ram if possible  ;D ;D

thanks Tirdu. Why do you think BWM are a bad idea? Not saying I don't agree, just curious. Having tasted them, they have a wonderful flavour.
