Haulage costs?
« on: November 29, 2013, 07:19:32 pm »
Does anyone know how hauliers charge? Is it per mile, per job, per head etc. Or are they all different?

Normally  per animal, but this is based on  distance and time plus how many  animals , if  a lorry is going in the right direction empty then it can be quite cheap

Get a couple of quotes is my advice ---

I just got a bill for £168 for taking 168 ewes 50 miles which is fine by me and I would think maybe a bit cheap if I was the haulier

Longthornes of Pately Bridge took 32 Wiltshire Horns from  Warwick to  Aberdeen for £250.
They did have a lorry in South Wales going to Thainestone north of Aberdeen.

But it was another Haulage company who put me on to them.

I suppose it depends on the haulier as you can see this almost made a return load for them.
