I am soon to be taking over a 10 acre field, majority of it is lovely, flat with good grazing. But at one end about 3 acres it is pretty overgrown, not sure what with but there are some very tall thistles.

What is the best way to deal with it at this time of year, do I have it topped?

It was lovely last year I used to see the field regular in summer, not sure what has happened it must have left for a while to get the way it is. Would be good if I could get it back to how it was last year.

Personally when the land is dry enough, I would top it and in the spring top it again or the best would be to spray it off once it's back but still small enough to not get out if hand.

Can't see from the pic but looks like docs although a bit too tall? Topping now will not cause you any problems. If you have thistle problems, topping too early in the year can spread them. You want to do them in July really.
