Nourish has been working for last two years to develop a training and work-based learning programme for new farmers and growers. We are now in the process of organising an 18 day course running two days per month from March to November 2014.
As well as the face to face practical and theory elements on the course there will be some individual mentoring and additional learning materials on line. We will where needed organise work placements with relevant hosts. The teaching will probably be in Fife, but the course will be open to people working anywhere in Scotland.
We hope to have learners from a variety of backgrounds who are interested in setting up, extending or working in a local food business (whether a private business or a social enterprise). This first year's programme will be focused on food growing - whether at community garden or small farm scale - for a local market.
The programme will be open to:
Young people interested in a career in food growing
People with previous experience in other sectors who are wanting to develop a new career/business
People working in community farms/gardens who want to improve their skills base
The cost of the programme is yet to be finalised.
While we cannot yet guarantee that the course will run, it would be very helpful to get expressions of interest at this stage as this would help us match the programme better to people's requirements. If you would like to be considered for a place please get in touch.
