How do I store walnuts?
« on: November 05, 2013, 01:54:47 pm »
Probably a bit late for this year but we have a lovely walnut tree which is probably 100 years old.  Haven't tried to harvest it but I did pick a couple of dozen off the ground, rinsed them and put them on the window sill to dry a couple of days ago and noticed this morning that a few have got a white fur on the outside.

Can someone advise me on harvesting, storing and any care that walnut trees need?

Many thanks,
Simone

Hello  , i don't know the specifics about walnuts but why did you wash them ?
If they have been down a long time then they may not keep anyway , but any that you know are down within a day or so , just collect , brush off any soil/muck and allow any dampness to dry off and store in a dry , cool airey room/shed . Like spuds or carrots etc , wash them and they don't store as well .
