Re-use fruit cage
« on: November 02, 2013, 10:05:37 pm »
Hi,

I have a spare fruit cage approx 6m x 10m.  Any thoughts on what it could be repurposed for?  Has been used as a chicken run but no longer needed for that.

Cover with plastic for a polytunnel/greenhouse style building?

Veg? Or have you now got your protection for fruit and veg elsewhere? Or just seasonal use for young chicks/ducklings/whatever whilst they still need crow protection. Rabbits? Quail?  Outdoor dog run?

Or just sell it! I'd snap it up - always thinking I should get something like that for baby birds.

If I could figure out how to securely attach a roof I might keep it as a chicken run.  Trouble is we are on a windy site so would need to be super secure.  The other challenge with fitting a roof is that it is flat so rain run off needs to be considered.

Does it not have a net roof already? Surely that's OK for chickens?
