Anyone used Facebook to promote what these do?
« on: October 13, 2013, 08:20:16 pm »
I wondered if any of you had used Facebook along with your own blogs/ websites to,promote what you do/ your business etc etc? Any thoughts, tips comments?

As fas as i can see the best thing to do is set up a specific page and get people to 'like it' I've set up  Sheppard Seed Co so if you want to check it out and like I think it gives you some sort of page analytic if you pass 30 likes. Assume that wil let me see who is checking it out etc....

We recently set up a facebook page forour business. It's at very much a fledgling state at the moment but hopefully it'll get some traffic eventually. Also got into twitter a few weeks ago and we've got 65 followers already. FB Bodafon Free Range Pork, twitter @bodafonpork.  Our plan is to connect with our local customer base and be able to offer info and a bit of interaction with them, rather than take things out into the wider world.

Good for me - I use it to post photos of the animals and farm.  www.facebook.com/beremarshfarm - BUT haven't kept up to date for a few weeks, easy to do!

I use it I have a link from my website too as I find it easier to put something up on facebook than having to update my website https://www.facebook.com/Happyhensuk

Thanks for all replies..., I used to dislike Facebook somewhat but think it could be useful.

You can put your Facebook page address in the Facebook Page URL field on your profile here:

This puts a wee Facebook icon in your details when you post, which is a direct link to your page.

I've found facebook to be very effective at keeping in touch with Members and 'Friends' of our community farm for a 'certain demographic'. It appears to me that about half of our 30-50-something folk are on facebook and use it a lot so its great for them. Its important to realise that basically your updates (and not all of them!) will appear only to people who already 'like' you - unless they in turn like/share/comment on it. This means its much better for keeping in touch with people who have an existing relationship with you than it is for advertising to attract new potential customers etc.

Used it for a bit but it didn't really attract any new business so stopped using it

We use a FB page for Its Baaath Time and its an incredible boost for business (especially as it feeds out twitter account at the same time)

[urlhttps://www.facebook.com/pages/Its-Baaa-th-Time/127693420597938?fref=ts][/url]

we have about 500 'likers' and I mainly update with new products, announcements (eg. shop will be closed for a week etc) to find out what customers would like from a product etc etc

I'm the same. I only use it for business wouldn't dream of using it on a personal basis.

I have used twitter ... Attracted over 20,000 followers for a previous venture... Got frustrated with Facebook as found family kept using it to brag about things and tell the world when they were on holiday for eg... With no thought to how it's not too smart to tell people your house is empty... Or to list their maiden name and birthday..... Two security questions answered for most peoples financial transactions.

Will persevere with it for my little bit of fun..... All comments still bee very helpful!

At the moment facebook is the only outlet for my little business. I think the trouble with limiting it the way I have is that it takes a bit of time for the wave of 'likes' to spread outside my circle of friends. Especially as I am not the sort of person who will keep inviting people over and over. On the other hand, because it is just me and I make things to order, if my audience was huge I wouldn't be able to keep up with demand.

At the moment I am concentrating on making stock to sell at my kids school christmas fair but after christmas I will be shifting my focus to opening an ebay shop. My brother has an ebay shop and does very well through it. He also has his own website which he paid for (£500) and which I couldnt afford to do but it depends on your turnover I guess! What he did say to me was to buy a domain name now, even if I dont have a website yet as this will help when I do eventually (maybe) get one, people can see from my domain name that I have been trading for a decent length of time which makes me more trustworthy to buy from (apparently, its all beyond me tbh!).
