CHEAPEST TINNED DOG FOOD
« on: October 08, 2013, 08:47:04 am »
I'm looking for the cheapest tinned dog food.

I'm fostering a blind rescue dog and picking her up from a transport Saturday Week (until Christmas when my permanent rescue arrives).  The transport is empty going back and seeks donations.  I've bought 10 x15kg of dry food from B&M (7.99 a bag = bargain) but now want to get some wet food for them.  What's the cheapest you've found.

....needless to say the kitchenaid is on hold for another month but... hey  ;)

Best to keep to the food she is on when she comes to you- she will be stressed and changing her food will make her worse.

No, its for food to send back in the empty truck......I never check prices of tinned dog food but do B&M do a cheap tinned food as well?,  I did used to buy tripe dog food in huge tins, forgot but one of the cheap supermarkets.. it was certainly cheap, I get confused with those shops    I must add, I bought a load of tinned mackerel in oil for our dogs and it was only 39p a tin and packed with the little fish..they only have fish in tomato sauce now but its not too expensive 49p......dogs love fish and its good for them! You can also buy those rolls of dog meat, its no good for ours as it would give them the trots....but easy and cheap to send in a container!

Maybe try the agri. stores. Can't tell you the make or price but know I've seen trays of cheap canned food for sale there.

Fred has Tesco Value Sardines (34p) everyday along with an egg and a spoon of oil.... lubricates the joints  :roflanim:...

I'll try an agricultural store and B&M, I didn't look I just loaded the dry stuff

As for the rescue, she's on bread 3 to 4 days a week, that's all the rescue can afford :'( and then whatever random donations they get from restaurants and people.  already warned to change her diet gradually.  Not a good diet but better than being frozen to death or beaten to death.

The dog rolls that Sandy mentioned are fairly cheap. About 65p for a big roll. My dog loves it.

   Bread... ??? I remember we used to feed pups with bread and milk when I was a little girl...(an humans too). I bet she will gobble up anything with any taste or protein in it, and it may come out the other end as fast as it goes in  until she gets used to it, how exciting!!

Tesco value stuff is great...must get a few more tins, we give ours scrambled eggs once a week too....they love a bit of Varity and ours so love carrots too..I have a lovely video clip of our new 8 week old pup playing with a carrot then her mummy coming in and taking it off her!! carrots last a lot longer with our dogs than any chew!

We've just been helping with a Brittany in Mallorca that's been fed on bead only - thankfully a member has taken him on to foster until a permanent home is found.  He was in the most awful state and we think his bones and internal organs have been affected.

Sorry, didn't read your post properly that the food was to send out to rescue - even cheap food is far far better than bread.   Do they have anywhere where money can be donated?  Can't help with prices of cheap food, sorry, don't buy it.

Do you have a Costco or Booker wholesalers near you? We buy everything in bulk now using my business account - it works out about 45% cheaper than shop prices per tin/bag.
Good luck - my sister in law fosters dogs coming over from spain, such a sad state some of them and its so rewarding to see them find new homes.

If you have access to makro you can get 12 tins of breeder pack tripe mix for around £4 a pack , we sometimes get it too mix in with the other feed as a change.
You can also get the breeder pack 15kg sacks of complete from Makro every so often for £5 a sack, one of our wolfhounds is on it as all of the other stuff goes straight through him where is he does well on that

You got me checking dog food prices and even noticed Morrisons has some good deals on their own brand...I looked at price per weight....good luck anyway!  I suppose you can do some pretend online shopping at the supermarkets to check prices.......same with the online pet shops and wholesalers!
