I have had this small brown hen since early this year, so still young. Initially she began laying tiny eggs, and they slowly got bigger. At the start of the summer she went broody - or that is all we can say it was - she stayed in the nest box sitting on eggs all day. She would even sit when there were no eggs. Eventually it stopped and she joined the rest of the hens (4 others). About a month ago she started again and we now have a terrible job to get her out of the nest box. Her comb etc are pink and small. She will eat her fill, drink water, poo as normal but then desperately wants back into the nest box. We have taken her out every afternoon, after the laying has stopped, and closed up the box. She goes mad to get back in and takes a very long while to settle. We aren't sure if she is actually broody or if she is hiding from a big hen that has taken a dislike to her. She can hold her own and can run fast. Today I put her out - she won't come out voluntarily - and she immediately found some leaves nearby and began putting them onto her own back one at a time. That behaviour lasted about 5 or more minutes on and off. Very odd. Any ideas welcome. She is not laying, by the way. Tricia
