Selling meat to pubs etc
« on: October 03, 2013, 04:27:04 pm »
Can anyone tell me if there are any more restrictions/specifications if you decide to sell half or whole lamb direct to a local pub, rather than to friends and family? I can't seem to find any information on it but just wondering whether it would be more of a headache than it's worth  :-\  thanks,

Dan

Yes, there are more regulations if you're selling to an intermediary rather than the end consumer.

It needn't be too onerous if you're not handling the meat yourself (i.e. the pub collects from the abattoir/butcher).

Contact your local env health department for advice - they are there to help, and you (and the pub) will want to get it right.

Thanks   I'm sure the pub owners could meet me at the butchers to collect so that shouldn't be an issue, the butcher is very local. It would be quite nice if we could do it, the pub are keen to promote local produce and currently don't serve lamb because of the price, but I want to make sure it is all done properly for both sides involved!

Don't under value your product to the pub though as its all to easy to allmost give it away so one can say ''they sell my lamb in the coach and horses '' don't ya know
