Big step! my first pedigree sheep :)
« on: September 24, 2013, 10:23:29 pm »
Well after a whole lot of thought I have made the step into purebred sheep :) I will be phasing out my commercials over the next two years and converting the flock to purebred Blue Du Maines  :sheep:
Sourced from a respectable breeder, the 4 gimmers & a ram lamb are settling in really well, although currently in full isolation. To say I am delighted is an understatement  :excited:
The ram will also go onto my Beltex gimmers for spring lambs, but I have just dropped off 10 gimmers for  the Thainstone gimmer sale tomorrow where there are some 10,000 sheep entered, hope my girls find a good home, Ive not long got back and feel as guilty as hell for selling them, not quite as bad as dropping off fat lambs though!

anyway thatsmy little update ;)

How exciting - I do like the Blue Du Maines.    I am also considering going down the purebred route with the Hampshire Downs and plan on selling some of my commercial types with their HD x lambs next Spring and then the rest the following year  :fc:

I have a couple of commercials that won't be going anywhere either - including Molly my 17 year old Suffolk and my other pure bred Suffolk Lucy and her daughter who will have a forever home with me :innocent:.

Congrats! Always loved the look of the BdMs! And as you have Beltex you can produce milleniums too! Well done you and congrats again!
