For a while I grew up with a Goan stepmother and remember this as a standard dish..  It was lush.  This recipe is very hot (too much for me), but its not as much as a faff as it seems and really is a fabulous winter warmer with something like saag aloo and rice...
For me, it gets rid of liver without endless liver and bacon casseroles and is .... just scrummy. 

I've just put a batch on for an old neighbour who can't shake a cold and likes a curry, it won't be ready until Wednesday though!!

please try it, Tamarind can be replaced with diced dates if you don't have it in your cupboard and some recipes put in coconut feni (a goan liqueur), any coconut based liquor will do if you want to add some in  ;D
