is it wrong to clip out lambs?
« on: September 21, 2013, 06:06:26 pm »
having had a lamb go down with strike today,,, it was caught early as iv been closely checking daily as had mucky bum....I was thinking, the main reason she got it I think is shes got a really thick fleece...., the strike wasn't anywhere near the bum end surprisingly......
so it is wrong to clip out a lamb in its first year or can you...
I can easily barn them over winter if I want as I only have 4 and they are very tame and pets so im happy to stable them if the clipped off of their coats at this time of year will compromise their ability to live out In winter....

any experts suggest if its ever done and if its ok to do?

Having read your other posts, you need to understand that CLIK is an INSECT GROWTH REGULATOR is does not kill flys or their eggs  but affects the growth of the maggots and deforms them so when you say very small maggots sounds like it is working . Yes you can clip lambs , some people do ewe lambs which causes them to eat more and grow faster, some breeds romneys in particular were always done , the wool board price quotes for lambs wool ( or did ? ) normal time to clip lambs is august and you tend to use a snow combor hand clip to leave a cover of wool for protection . So if you hand clip soon and keep inside or in nights out during the day for a while you should be ok the wool grows faster as the weather gets colder
