pony has arived (UPDATE)
« on: September 16, 2013, 04:25:17 pm »
our little Shetland arrived on Saturday
things are a bit worse than I thought
first thing we did was start her on a 5 day course of panacur
scrubbed the mud from her feet and legs and I cut a good 5 inches of tail off that was dragging on the ground
brushed 3/4 of a carrier bag of dead hair out of her mane and tail and another half a bag out of her body

farrier is coming out on Wednesday she needs a good inch off
her hips and back bone are sticking out quite badly
and all she did on the first day in the stable was lay down and sleep she must have been exhausted

feeding her on as much hay as she wants to eat a hand full of chaff her vitamins and minerals and a bit of carrot  to help the wormer go down
and will see how we get on
will worry about keeping the weight off once I've got it on

she is the sweetest gentlest pony I've ever come across such a lovely nature
even being in the mess she's in at the moment  I'm so pleased I brought her
not that I could have left her anyway :roflanim: :roflanim: :roflanim:

its not the first time I've taken one on most others would have walked away from but its never done me a bad turn they've always come good in the end and ended up being the most loyal pets :relief:
we will get there

Poor little mite and good for you taking her on. I'm sure she will repay you in spades once she feels a bit better. :horse: :trophy:

Congratulations, she is very lucky to have you!  I would be tempted to add mictonised linseed (from Charnwood Milling, a bag that costs about £30 will last her months) to help with the weight gain.  She looks very sweet.

if she let you do all that on her first day then she will be a superstar.

bluechip is very good for ponies needing a boost. im sure there is a laminitis safe version for ponies. its quite expensive but worth it. or there is equilibra though i havent used it myself.

she was sooooooooooo good with all the pulling around wasn't just on the first day it was within a hour of arriving
and all with the tractor running backwards and forwards
and for the rest of the day she just slept
must have caught up on her rest because she perked up now
little ears are up and interested in what's going on
don't want to push to much weight on to quickly but will find something to help
want to get feet sorted first
thanks all
we will get there
ONE DAY !!!!

Fibre beet is good for weight. Friend used it on an under weight welsh pony she took on and he is looking a lot better. she feeds it with a high fibre chaff.

I am so pleased (BUT SO ANGRY)

we have had our pony for 2 weeks now

first week I kept her in and wormed her
she was given add lib hay and a hand full of chaff for her wormer and a couple of carrots twice a day
and of course her vitamins and minerals

2nd week we put her out on grass we still put a hay net out in the field as the grass isn't at its best
I give her a hand full of chaff a couple of carrots and her vitamins and minerals once a day

got my tape out yesterday in the 2 weeks we've had her she's put on  (wait for it !!!)

19 kgs

I cant believe it
haven't done any thing special I thought id see how she went IVE JUST FED HER and not even a lot
she looks loads better in herself cant feel her ribs anymore and cant see her spine  and her rump is starting to fill out hips are still sticking out a bit but that will soon sort its self out
