Avast Anti Virus?
« on: September 03, 2013, 08:42:40 pm »
My laptop came in with AGV installed, but only for about 48 hours before they want me to pay.

I had heard of Avast which purports to be free.  What does anyone think of it or should I go for another anti virus programme?

We are using Microsoft Security Essentials (OH is the computer boffin not me...), and it is much faster than AVG. On our (sometimes slow) broadband connection AVG was often taking ages to do its thing...

Also free to download.

I use MS essentials too.  But it can be a bit of a pest - it sometimes pages for no apparent reason.  I have AVG FREE on my laptop.

I used Avast for years when I had windows.  Very good, regular updates, not too intrusive.  Thoroughly recommend it.

I have Ad-Aware Antivirus which is free to download and touch wood has kept on top of things for a couple of years now.  It can be set up to scan and update itself regularly or on demand, just sometimes it is downloading definitions or running a full scan and slows my browser and other programs down but I have an ancient and memory tight laptop so I don't blame it entirely for taking the capacity.
