:excited: Put bird feeders out yesterday for the first time in the new house and my 4 year old said today..look at that big bird, I expected to see a big blue tit but it was a woodpecker.  I just hope the resident Buzzard doesn't visit or my hook will give way! lol

Excellent. A spotted one or a green one?

:excited: it was a spotted, I tried to take a pic but there's a large window and with a 4 year old and 2 dogs it may have been slightly put off posing! lol

We've got loads of green woodpeckers around at the moment - hopefully destroying all the ants nests. I think we've had a brood or two hatch somewhere in one of the big trees. There was one pecking away in the middle of the lawn while I was feeding the chickens this evening.

Likely to be a Lesser Spotted if on a bird feeder - they're bolder than the Greater.

They're great to look at aren't they? :excited:  We have had a family of them visiting the feeder for 18 months but I have never lost the thrill when I see one.

My friend has one visit her garden. I'm jealous.

I had never seen one before this one  :excited: It's so brazen as the feeder is only just outside a large window and the dog bed is on the inside level with the feeder. I'm now dreading how much this novelty is going to cost me as I'm quite a few fat balls down this week already!  :P :P

Try peanuts instead. Cheaper, and it keeps them occupied for ages!

Lovely birds to watch.
Just a polite reminder please  :eyelashes: - do not buy fat balls with the bags.  I had to rescue a blue tit trapped with it's foot tangled in the netting :( .  And they are cheaper in bulk without the bags ;D .
