Presume it's not just mine that get them? Not talking full-on acne, just the odd one on the odd sheep. Love squeezing the yuk out! So satisfying.

No,we don't get anything like that.  You are talking small spots, like teenage acne?  Not big lumps, especially big lumps at the angle of the jaw?

Only thing we had last year was a cyst at the site of vaccination .... probably my fault. Examined by vet because I did worry about a disease that I'd read about .... can't remember the name but the position of the lumps was important.

Oooh, now I feel my sheep are freaks! I think they get the odd foreign body under the skin, a thorn or such like or perhaps it's a greasy skin thing with lanolin excreted more than normal in one 'spot'. I feel my sheep alot during fussing sessions and occasionally come across a slight lump with a small black centre. Squeezing produces a 'worm' of ickiness and then I blue or purple spray when all the ick is out. Along the spine is common, usually in the shoulder blade area. Wish I'd kept quiet now obviously

Arrr .....  Think you might be getting a bit more close and personal with your sheep than some of us. I was thinking "biggish", visible lump.


Mine like their noses rubbed but probably wouldn't be hanging around for too long for that much fuss so may well have teeny lumps and bumps.

That's why I asked Amanda whether it was big lumps at the angle of the jaw 

Abcesses at the site of vaccination are common, even if full aseptic precautions are used.

Gosh I worried for a minute there Sally until I read the Nadis article. Had a Shetland with a big abcess on her jawline but not at the angle of the jaw thank goodness. Drained it. It was yucky but she's looking better now.
We sometimes have vaccination site infections. I know what they look like.

Nearly every one of my lambs this year had a lump at vaccination site - usually do not have any react.  I wondered if the Hampshire Down was more susceptible as a breed to this type of thing?  The lumps didn't cause any discomfort though as all the lambs were bouncing around as usual and all lumps have now disappeared.

Are you sure there not Orf spots? If so I,d be warry of squeezing them as they its transmitable to humans and is a bugger to get rid of and scars like crazy!

We noticed a lump on one lamb and okay I admit I did panic at first because I looked at a list of diseases and found CLA  (forgot the name last night). Got it checked out before discovering that most of the lambs had lumps at the vaccination site.


Did ring the vaccine manufacturers who said that as far as they knew no breeds were more susceptible to reaction.

What do you mean sally? what do the jaw lumps mean? I have a ewe with a lump on her jaw! Worried
