What a shock this morning - driving BH to hospital and for an appointment about his shoulder there was Dolly with a new born lamb!!! So poor BH got abandoned. She lost twins in March and I'd put her in with the ram to keep her away from the ewes in case of anything catching. So she much have been tupped there and then. They are in the safety of the shed for a couple of nights as the lamb is pretty small - sheep are surprising. Here's a pic of Dolly and her ewe lamb snowball (named by BH)

I'm feeling rather guilty as all the sheep were moved 2 days ago and she was in a bunch that didn't want to go - so my friendly farmer brought his dog - they went round the field twice before going through the gate - Dolly was lagging behind and I said to my friend she's a bit on the fat side!!!

One of my shetlands lambed 2 weeks ago in the field (thankful for the fine weather). I did wonder when I was shearing her.

She aborted in Feb and despite my efforts kept 'returning' to the rams paddock. Even when I brought them inside I found her lying on the ground outside their shed. So I gave in and put the 'tart' in with them because at least I knew where she was! Luckily she is not a 'shy' shetland so I left her with the comfort of the flock and gave her nuts for a few days.

I would just vaccinate the newborn lambs as soon as possible, given that the dam was probably not recently boostered with Heptavac. They will not get any passive immunity with the colostrum.

I think that's only if the ewe has been recently vaccinated - otherwise you conflict the passive immunity from the ewe with the active immunity from the vaccine. I'd check with the vet - if lamby is getting nothing from Mum, she might ned her Heptavac sooner.
