I love old people
« on: July 11, 2013, 08:41:35 am »
:roflanim: what a day yesterday.... I had to lay a new vinyl tile floor for an old boy, just over 90 years old
he had a great personality and was laughing away most of the day,

anyway, It wasn't the easiest of jobs, the kitchen sat behind a full glass conservatory , and with the sun baking in, the temp was pretty high... so the old boy decides he wants his lunch... yep!!! 2 rings on the electric cooker goes on  :roflanim: :roflanim:... and i had just started to glue up the floor (not spirit based glue) but even so..the glue was going off very quickly, ..... bless him, he walked straight through the glue onto the new tiles i had just laid... well at this point all health and safety rules went out the door :roflanim:

took me a good 30 minutes to clean the tiles... but hey ho... he loved his new floor, and i was soaked through with sweat... i must have smelt soooooo sweet ... don't you just love old folk

A lot of people like a routine but it seems as we age, we cling onto routines so we have some form of security, I only said to my husband a min ago when we saw an elderly lady pass us, same place same time as all the other days this week, we are going to work but she is probably getting her news paper, her security my be that if she is not at the shop at a certain time, people will know there is something wrong, and she may well like to be home to watch or listen to something on the TV or radio etc, so that's routine bit, that old boy probably has his lunch rain hail or shine at the same time every day and has done for years, to change the time will have put his day out of sink and confused him further. I find it both funny and a worry when it gets icy and you still see the same old folk going off to get their paper in the ice.
My ex husband is a plumber and did a lot of work in a local residential home for the elderly, one day he had to close off a toilet as he was doing some repairs, just outside the toilet the floor boards were up and they had put a form of barricade around the gap in the floor, well, my husband saw a frail and elderly man, pushing buy the barricade and stepping over the missing floor boards, my ex kept telling him to use a different toilet but when the elderly gentle man reached my ex, he put his hand out as if to shake his hand, my husband obliged and went to shake his hand, only to be handed a huge turd.....the man then went back to his room :roflanim:

Children and old people are so alike, I am getting to the old point as already 1 spill lots down me (always have) trip over, ask for help to get stuff off the shelve I cannot reach and ask for some one to read instructions, the only difference is I do not run around like a child!!! :innocent:

My mother is 82 and my brother was just saying this morning when we were chatting on the phone. Mum clicks her fingers and he has to jump. He thinks she is more grumpy, demanding, also thinks it is her right to be like this. We do laugh about it but I know her sharp tongue sometimes upsets him. he is the one with kidney failure, heart problems. Mum is fit as a fiddle. he hates letting her down which is quite a lot now due to his poor health but he is the one feeling guilty. I have said to mum that Alan is not up to doing little jobs for her now and she will agree but after a few days she is on the phone wanting him to help with someone. Glad I live 4 hours away. :-J
