A spot of fishing last night.
« on: July 08, 2013, 02:43:53 pm »
My brother and I went back in time last night and fished the tide up from our favourite spot off the rocks. We've fished from there for decades but not for many years. On the night, we caught some small pollack and loads of dogfish. The pollack came on spinners, while the doggies fell for squid fished on the bottom.
We witnessed a super sunset and the  thoroughly enjoyable fishing was almost a bonus.
I got home just after 10.00pm but early on in the night, a bit of interest was provided when I foul hooking a pretty big spider crab at about 60 yards out. It didn't register as a bite but when I got it in, I saw that the hook had gone through one of its legs. It was probably in the wrong place at the wrong time when I'd started to retrieve my bait ready for another cast. Anyway, it paid a high price for its bad luck, because on the way home I dropped it in at 'Rareones' house so that she could boil it up for me.
My nephew took some pictures of my unusual catch, so here are some photos.

I've never had crabs before.  :farmer:

And finally, good night all. We live in a beautiful place.

Wow,  where is that? and I never had crabs before either and judging by the size of that one, you certainly would know if you had them that size :innocent:
Those photos are beautiful

I was a student in Aberystwyth and often stayed in town over the summer - I used to dive for those off the rocks, you'd get loads in June/July. Mighty tasty they are - and they tuck up when you grab hold of them and swim up unlike brown crabs who try to fight you a bit...

I like making chilli crab with them.
