Kassie my 6 month olf was spayed and had her inactive eye removed today.  ..... She is back home with swollen face and feeling bit sorry for herself .... and I feel guilty for putting her through it.

I suffer terribly with guilt!! Hope she feels better soon, maybe I am missing on a post but what is an OLF? and was her eye problem from birth or injury? I am interested as I saw a Lab pup with no eyes and it made me wonder...off to google olf now!

I know what you mean. When Archie was 'done' I felt awful but it wasn't long before he was back to his old self and he doesn't seem to have missed his bits 
I am sure she will be better for having the eye operated on too.

I found it interesting that my female Lab who loves water and jumps in at every and any opportunity, stayed well out of it until she had healed, I just said "no" and she watched as they others went in...they soon recover, surprisingly quick!

Think eye was injury but I got her with one damaged eye from rescue centre ... OH loves to tell evryone we have a one eyed sheep dog!    OLf (f is next to d on key board!)

Oh....a slip....I even googled  Olf , my lab got bitten very near her eye when she was very young, that was due to her going up to an older and less friendly dog, also the stud dog we use lost his eye in a fight!!.
 I think spaying a female in particular gives them a new lease of life and is necessary to help prevent future infections that can turn very nasty!!

Update ..... Kassie feeling much better ..... I should be pleased  .... but makes keeping wounds damage free much harder!

Haven't you got a plastic cone to go round her head? Or one of those softy collars?

I know when Julie was spayed about 4weeks ago, we caged her in her crate a lot for the first 5 days or so, not ideal but needed to be done to protect the stitches ( from the other dogs primarily), she's was herself again after 10days

I had a real problem stoping Archie from licking his wounds.  They gave him a collar but because he has such a long snout he could still reach. He went back to have his stitches out by which time he had already taken all of them out himself    Luckily no harm done.

Tried lampshade ... but she went psycho .... was afraid she would knock her swollen eye so decided that was more of a problem so took off again. (vet had also.tried and failed!) ... she hasn't  bothered  with wound too much so far.  Put t-shirt on her last night but she had removed it by time I got up this morn. Just keeping  . Vet check in morn I'll discuss with her.

My labs have been brilliant at not licking their bits......I must add, when my daughters dog cuts her foot, I bandaged it very thickly and then put a load of grey gaffa tape on the top going up her leg, that was the only way we could prevent the cut getting worse, her foot looked like a golf club but it worked, so I suppose you could tape baby booties on the feet too....I am now smiling to myself as I bought some fun claw slippers that were for children, they fit my labs wonderfully but do come off, 2 pairs of them taped on and  you are sorted.....if you can stop laughing
