Good news Monday!
« on: June 24, 2013, 10:52:54 am »
Oops, in the excitement of the Highland Show, I forgot to do our "Good news Friday" topic so here's a Good News Monday!

What's happened in the last 10 days that you want to celebrate with us?

Two for us - Charlie Calf making a full recovery and Annie being a star at the Highland Show :cow: :cow:

Thoroughly enjoyed yesterday helping with our Working Spaniel tests, just got the money to count and record, and get the results on the website

I had my granddaughter and her friend for the weekend. Lots of riding and fun with the ponies.

Completed on our smallholding on Friday. Did the first removals trip there. Nice meal in local and spent the first night there (a bit cold because we neglected to bring the blankets - but made up for by a glorious deep hot bath - again our first in the property).

Bought a small Haybob - Steve can do the turning & raking this year.

And, even better - it's stopped RAINING! - We had 51mm yesterday - I know we could have done with a bit of rain, but 51mm was slightly more than I wanted.

The construction of our new farm shed got underway last week. They have made good progress and the steel frame is almost all in place already. Exciting times ahead.  :excited:  It is to be used for our wedding reception in just under 6 weeks time, gah!!! The stress levels when waiting for planning permission to go through with so little time before the wedding were not good my health! And even better news - no complaints from the villagers so far!! We were expecting lots of unhappy faces, as it can be seen from quite a few houses.

The best bit for me in the last week was having our first Homes4Hens collection day at home. Eck and I met Paula, another area rehomer and brought 28 ex batts home with us. Not a huge amount but for our first rehoming a reasonable start as we hadn't had time to advertise prior to the rehoming. Met 4 lovely couples , mostly impotantly Ionahenatlast (who actually started the ball rolling for us).
Also met with the manager of local Pets at Home and have arranged for a hen awareness day in August to be held in store.
Worst bit was losing one of the ex batts I took for myself to septiceamia (sp).

Received some lovely feedback on the new Dog soap (Auld Hemp) that we aim to start selling in the next few weeks, cheered me right up that did.
Enjoyed a 2 hour, intensive training session with Murphy the dog yesterday and learnt so much about what makes him tick that I came away feeling very positive and happy.
Held a stall at the school my children went to BEFORE we  moved and entered into smallholding (so over 4 years back) and it helped my hubby and I to reflect upon how much we actually have achieved and how we've changed these past few years, did us good!
Smallholding in Worcestershire, making goats milk soap for www.itsbaaathtime.com and mum to 4 girls,  goats, sheep, chickens, dog, cat and garden snails...

Just had a visit from one of my Japanese spinning friends, who I hadn't seen for 9 years.  She has come over for the Highland Show and Woolfest so I will see her again on Friday.   She spins the most unbelievably fine yarn then knits Shetland type super-delicate shawls and scarves; she has won several prizes at the Highland Show with her work, and at the Shetland Guild.  I can only stare in amazement . :spin: :knit:   As neither of us speaks the other's language we communicate by giggling  8)   A great day.

Had the sheep sheared, and the baler mended by a lovely chap, and realised the lump on my Pony's neck was not the plague but a reaction to her flu jab from the week before :-))) duh!

Nothing thrilling for anyone other than us 2, no one else envolved and nothing to do with dogs either, although they do benifit, I  have to keep it quiet as some people could ruin things for us if I let the cat out the bag, and no, not a long awaited cat, although I have been very tempted indeed!!!
