Pekin chick colour question
« on: June 24, 2013, 09:27:22 am »
We have had Pekins for a couple of years now, various colours from hatching eggs bought in.
This year we have decided to hatch some of our own (parents unrelated), the only two that were fertilised and developed hatched this morning - very exciting!
I don't really mind what colour they turn out - but I wasn't expecting two very yellow chicks from (I think) a partridge hen and Creole cockerel, which were both dark chicks! The cockerel had a white spot on his head when hatched. Pics attached of parents together, and of cockerel as a chick - does anyone have any idea what colour our new yellow chicks might end up being please, and please feel free to correct me on colours of parents - new to all this!? Thank you....

In my experience, yellow chicks always turn out white. If they are a dark yellow/golden colour they may end up more of a buff colour.

Thank you - that's what I thought, the one yellow chick from our first hatch 2 years back turned out Lemon Pekin.  Just confused as to how we got these colours this time round with these parents but I guess genetics are a complex topic  :)  I will watch progress with interest .....
