we always used to use a car to strain it, then we went to a hi lift jack,
now we have bought a draper fencing tool and it works really well! apart from it its strained sliiiightly too tight the tool turns into a wire cutter and clips through the wire

 Not had that problem, maybe you have a sharp edge which needs blunted :thinking:

Perhaps yes  :thinking: will take a closer look and it and get the grinder out

Its such a great tool though! and makes putting up plain wire so easy :)
