Confused....are twin calves not infertile? Heard / read it a few times.....

I think that's only where there's male and female twin, the female can be infertile cos of getting some of the bits the male should have?

But I might be wrong!

Yes, in some cases where there's a male and female twin, the female gets some of the male hormones at the wrong time and becomes a 'freemartin' - non-breeder.

But it's not all female twins who have twin brothers, it depends on developmental factors - but I don't know exactly what.

The only problem with heifer twins is that they are more likely to have twins themselves, so could have male+freemartin when they come to calve.

Twins are more trouble than they are worth, better to have one good calf than a set of twins. not always the case, but more often than not here.
either problems delivering, cows tend to be happy with one then leave the other etc etc!

dont let that put you off, good luck with your dexters!
