Training a grape vine.
« on: June 03, 2013, 09:03:02 pm »
Should I remove new side shoots to premote growth along the vine ? I want to train the vine up the side of a barn but over the last 3 years it has gained little height despite lots of growth.

Not 100% sure because I'm training mine differently but based on general pruning advice, yes, if you want it to go high, you want it to focus on that leader so you should remove most of the side shoots. Leave some side shoots just in case the leader has a problem. Have you got a clear leader?
