Hello there
« on: July 17, 2009, 10:14:38 pm »
Hi there

Ant n I (Jude) have come across this website many times in the past year as we have embarked upon our journey as small holders.  we finally decided that is was time we joined as we will probably never stop needing advice and guidance!

Just over a year ago we bought a run down toll house in the heart of Monmouthshire with about 1/2 acre of land.  We have done a lot in the past year since we bought our little bit of land.  Having grown just a few beans and some (small but perfectly formed) carrots last year we aquired some chickens last september - our very first livestock.

We have since expanded our veg patch drastically, sucessfully hatched 2 broods of cream legbar chicks (courtesy of a fab little hen called BT) and dug a huge pond.  The pond has been a real labour of love since our land is over the road from our house and we have largely had to fill it by carrying buckets of rainwater over said road (which is rural and therefore has a speed limit of 60mph!!!)

I'm not sure how much we could contribute with our very limited experience but at least we can give encouragement to others!  We've already got two out of four sprogs growing (and brewing!) their own so that in itself is an achievement.

Hi and welcome.  Our pond dries out totally in summer, then floods in winter.  Wonderful variations of wildlife.
