Oh dear VH, you too  :(
I lost both of my colonies this time, but they'd done fine over the previous 2 very harsh winters we'd had up there North of the Border.  We're back in Wales now, but there doesn't seem to be much of a nuc supply round here either.

If you have one strong colony, you could make 3 or 4 Neucleus hives from it ... if combined with swarm control / artificial swarm control measures.

The same thing all OK after Christmas then the queens breeds not proper fertile and bang total colapse will cost £2000 to sort and that's if i can  get the new nucs most bee keepers  have lost 60 percent to long a winter .If you are planing bees remember you could loose the lot 2 bad summers and  winters have done this .

Just back from Northern Bee auction at Carlisle, there was meant to be 20 or so nucs but they only had 6 forward and they sold for £230 each, makes beekeeping a very expensive hobby.

Its all down to supply and demand .... and people being prepared to spend silly money! Personally I would not pay anything remotely approaching that amount for a Neuc and neither would I ask anyone to pay me that much either.
