Hello from Wales
« on: May 17, 2013, 08:55:26 pm »
Hi Everyone

I've decided to come out of the shadows, been lurkin a while and all my google searches for smallholder type problems direct me here so here I am!

I live in South Wales, very near the Brecon Beacons, very near some of you it seems, on a 5 acre ish smallholding

I have  :pig: :goat: :sheep:  :alpaca: :&> :chook: :dog: :cat: No icon for ferrets yet! Oh and a husband  :dunce: who pays for it all by working very hard

I have a couple of years experience of keeping livestock, some bad, but mostly good, and after trying out all of the above we are concentrating on pigs as our main focus.

I research everything to death and very much look forward to hearing everyone's opinions and advice and experiences to help me in my smallholding dilemmas

Best wishes to all

Helen

Welcome    ... glad you have 'come out' !!

Which side of beacons are you?  Have you seen thread on meet up on 6th June near Carmarthen?
Linda

Don't wrestle with pigs, they will love it and you will just get all muddy.

Let go of who you are and become who you are meant to be.

Thanks everyone, BIW yes I have a friend on this forum who's put me down for the meeting next month, really looking forward to it, esp a bite to eat at Wrights! I am on the south west side of the Brecons, bottom of the Black Mountain in fact.

I can't make the smallholder show today, I'm tempted to skive off my jobs here and go today as well!

I am going tomorrow though, and again looking forward to a lovely day out and some good grub.

Yes weather is gorgeous, looks like tomorrow will be too,  :fc: for the rest of the week

Hi Helen. Glad you made it to the show on Sunday. See you on Wednesday - will set up the movement for the pigs today.

Hello Helen ,
Yet another welcome to the site .
I live very close to you at SA183BZ.
I no longer have a small holding due to injury and infirmity of body & mind  :roflanim:
Are you using straw or wood products for animal bedding ?  If so are you making a big compost heap ?

Hi, yes you're very close too Plantoid. I use straw for bedding, and have a large muck heap which a load of composting worms will soon be set to work on...why do you ask?
