Lost one of the Franks
« on: May 14, 2013, 01:06:44 pm »
We inherited Frank, and his 4 mates, 4 British Toggenburgs and a British Alpine some years ago,and they were adults then, so not really sure of their age.  Lady had a childrens corner, on her dairy farm now converted to putting green, camp site, cafe etc, and had got the goats thinking they were pygmy.  Well, pygmy they were not .....could never imagine them ever being pygmy sized even as kids. She they grew and grew until the penny dropped.......Anyway, they had been at a petting farm and spoilt, so kept escaping, and the golfers at this ladies farm were feeding them, so they kept harassing people in the car park for food.  Thats when I rehomed them.  I rehomed two, so was left with 3.  Kept Frank, so they became known as the three Franks.

One was off his food the other morning. Checked at lunchtime and he was dead.  Think it was just old age .....maybe big goats are like big dogs and do not live as long as smaller ones?!!  Anyway, rang the slaughter man, and in the meantime my husband went to pull Frank from the stable. I can honestly say these are some of the biggest goats I have seen, and no lightweights.  Man arrived, and opened the small side door, not the ramp with the winch.  He turned round, and his face was a picture when he saw the size of Frank. He looked from goat to small door .....and said he was expecting a goat ......this was the size of a donkey.  Look over the door I said, the other Frank (B Alpine is even bigger .....)  Anyway, between them, husband and man struggled and pushed to get Frank through the door.

I was a bit worried he was going to charge me donkey removal price, but as I know him well, he did  write goat on the chit, give me a wry smile and charge me £25 not £130...... ;D

As always, he shouted  "see you soon" as he knows my answer   "NO WAY!!"  Only saw him three weeks ago when he took my pony, and hopefully will not see him again for ages.

Sad to hear of your loss Roxy   sounds as though he had a lovely life with you  :-*
I've had the opposite experience with KKs - had a rescue sow suddenly go down on us last year, rang the local fallen stock folks to be told it would be £35 to take her away.  He came up the track in a great big wagon & openly laughed when he saw her - only charged me £8.50 in the end - not funny at the time  :'(  but can have a chuckle over it now.
