was out today again, and as long as you stayed out of the wind it was warm

Checked the hives and there was poleen being brought in

Don't know why the photo has loaded in the wrong orientation

At last, been a long time waiting. Not so warm in Suffolk, still have the very cold easterly wind so the girls haven't been brave enough to venture out.
Looking at the forecast this may change over the next few days, here's hoping.

Hopefully its going to be warmer here today so will keep an eye on the bees to make sure they are as active as yours.

Hi From Shropshire

My girls have been flying over the weekend,
Sat watching them bring in pockets full of pollen.

We have gorse in flower nearby which I think they are visiting.

Managed to get into our hives on Sunday which was great. Without wishing to tempt fate four out of four came through the long winter. Two a little light on stores, two with no eggs to be seen (just a quick look through so not that bothered, may have missed!). Now for some sunshine and Oil Seed Rape flowers and we will be up and running

Perhaps now is the time to mention pea flour for the bees .
Apparently it can be adjusted by the bees to be a bit like pollen , I never used it but came across the idea in a 1990's book on bees
Perhaps do several on line searches to se if the idea still is in use .

OH has just taken on the responsibility of librarian at our local bee keepers club so we have some wonderful books here, some quite old. I must see if I can find pea flour in them.
One of the books is on pollen and very old fashioned and it talks about how helpful pollen is for 'womens problems'. Yes, it says exactly that.
