Yay! lambing has started!!
« on: April 19, 2013, 06:43:25 pm »
Two of our ewes lambed today (another 14 to go, gulp!) The ewes are Shetlands (tho sadly unreg) but the ram is a prizewinning registered moorit shetland gentleman.
Three lambs, two ewes and one ram. Heres a piccie of the ram lamb. Havent got a good pic of the ewe single yet, but she is a lovely colour, fawn katmoget with a white stripe on each side, amazing! will try to get a pic of her.
This one has been named Walter (Raleigh) cos of the ruff.....:-DD

He is gorgeous - I may come and steal him  ;D
Our holding has Anglo Nubian and British Toggenburg goats, Gotland sheep, Franconian Geese, Blue Swedish ducks, a whole load of mongrel hens and two semi-feral children.

Before you decide to steal Walter Raleigh, you may wish to take Tiramisu the single ewe lamb also born yesterday.......what a colouring!!!

The start has gone a bit downhill as the two ewes are off their feed and scouring  :(

Have had the vet out already as its so out of character for my lovely Coco especially, so altho she wasnt at deaths door i knew she wasnt right. They don't know what's wrong, could be fluke even tho our land is dry and even tho coco at least was fluke dosed. For the meantime they've had antibiotics, vitamin injection B12 and I've got antibiotics to jab them with for another 2 days plus they are dropping off some stuff to put in the drinking water. we are also going to send off poo samples to get an accurate fluke and worm diagnosis, no point treatingn them with the wrong wormer or flukicide and it will help for the others to know what's up.

Now really worried the other 14 ewes to lamb are going to have the same issues - bouncy and healthy until they lamb and then poorly, not even sure where I would put them all.

Thankfully the ewes are in decent body condition and the lambs are currently still getting milk and drinking - but if it all goes belly up then it will be bottle o clock :-oooo

So fingers crossed for Tiramisu, Walter and Pingu and for Coco and Spotty the ewes.....

Most of our ryelands went of their food and scoured a bit after lambing, i do not know why but they're fine now.

did the ewes eat the afterbirth? I understand this can make them scour , never had a ewe eat an afterbirth so i can't say for certain it does tho
