Have just had a look at a Auction Report and need translation of the following in to plain English, as I am having an elderly moment and the single grey cell is not functioning properly if at all.

10:00 am - Draft Ewes followed by Finished Hoggs
10:30 am - Store Hoggs & Couples

What are draft ewes? finnished hoggs, store hoggs and couples?

Draft ewes: need moving off very rough grazing onto something better - ie off moorland onto pasture.

Hoggs - lambs born last season - also called old seasons lambs. In Scotland, lambs born in March/April turn into Hoggs on the 1st Jan.

Stores (any type) - sheep to be grown on for slaughter - not bred for breeding...

Each area of the country seems to have their own terms for the same beast, can make it confusing at times.

Not sure about couples, sorry
