None for me yet !!!
« on: April 04, 2013, 01:43:01 pm »
Can't believe it  ::)

Tups went in on the 21st October and nothing yet , got my petted lip out now  ;D

We have 13 Shetland ewes and 4-6 of them are well bagged up and looking very rotund, with dropped bellies, others look pregnant but not as far along, all these have small udders, I always lamb for about 6 weeks , all spread out , I like it that way but would prefer some action, almost 3 weeks now of constant checks !!

Back up tups went in on 5th December , but really hoping for some action before theirs arrive  ;D

You lovely pics are keeping me going, I am never able to reply on here at home as my IPad doesn't let me for some reason , so I have sneaked on here at work  :innocent:

I'm still waiting for one that I thought was due on 12th March. She was raddled but he obviously missed her. She is looking huge and bagging up but still nothing.
As a consolation though I have already had a single and twins from 2 other ewes.

I know what you mean about the constant checking though.
Be patient. There is no turning back for them now. You will soon have little   :sheep: :sheep: :sheep:

Stop watching - they are bound to give birth straight away.  I think it's the law!

We had four due on Sunday past; of them, one lambed on Saturday  ??? , two lambed yesterday (Wednesday) and one's still hanging on. We had another one due yesterday and one today - nothing.

I think they are waiting for rain  ;)

We sponged ours to lamb on saturday, a mixture of young coloured ryeland and old Balwen ewes we had one coloured on Easter and since then they have been alternate between the ryelands and balwens all lambing between 7 and 10am (we give them their morning feed around then, do you think it could influnse them?)until today when we had one of each breed in this time capsule leaving only on balwen ewe left who is a bit of a b**ch. we went in to eat at 6:30-7:00 and came out at 9:30 to find that she had lambed so we are now all finished. What i do not unerstand is why all but one out of 7 ewes wouldu lamb in the same 3 hours and all be overdue, I'm a bit puzzled.

Cosmo, my advice is to just accept that sheep are puzzling animals or your head will burst  ;D

Well Still none for me !
All the ewes now look at me like I'm mad!
Makes me feel better though that I'm not the only one with late lambs, my theory is that with the summer being soooooo wet and the ewes prob not being in as good condition at tupping time they came into heat later ?!! Therefore later lambs ??
Anyway will keep you posted, good luck to everyone else, off for a cuppa now !

My three Balwen's are all huge!  Not a sniff of a lamb yet  I'm sure they are crossing their legs due to the weather.

Mine are all very wild and I think I will have a hell of a job getting them inside to lamb.  They have loads of  thick hedges which they go and hide in when I'm wanting to check on them, but no field shelter.

Should I try to get them into our stables to give birth, or trust that they are going to get on with it themselves and be Ok in this un-seasonal weather?

Shetlands don't usually ( I know there will always be exceptions) take the tup much before the 1st week of November, even when he's been running with them. 2 friends and me all keep shetlands, all put the tups in at different times, all started lambing this week ;)

We got our first lamb today, a Heb  :sheep: :sunshine: .  Oh no, it was yesterday now  ::)   They could have started on April 1st, but the rest don't even have visible udders - you have to just about stand on your head to see up their skirts.  We don't scan so don't have exact dates, we just watch behaviour - although todays mum is the tiniest of our ewes and I wasn't even sure she was carrying a lamb, so that was a surprise
